The cache is a temporary storage location. It is used to improve input and output by reducing latency in order to improve the performance of applications. Web browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari use cache to store browser requests. These requests come in different forms, such as by clicking the ‘back’ button to return to a previous page. Rather than having to re-read all of the data on this webpage, the browser can simply access the cache which speeds up the entire process.
